How we rank
Short version: we read the reviews and buying guides so you don’t have to, then put the expansions in the order we’d buy them.
The four labels
- Buy this first — The one to get before anything else. Most groups will be glad they did.
- Worth it — A good buy once you have the first one. Adds real variety or fixes a real problem.
- Depends on your group — Great for some groups, wrong for others. The card says which.
- Most groups can skip — Most groups won’t miss it. Buy it if you’ve played everything else to death or it fixes something that bugs you.
Where the facts come from
- What’s in the box, player counts, what it needs: the publisher’s own pages first, then rulebooks and wikis.
- The order and labels: reviews and buying guides from established board game sites, plus common advice from players. Every expansion page links its sources.
- Prices: list prices from the publisher or reviews. A rough guide only.
What we leave out
- Promo cards and print-and-play extras.
- Rankings we can’t back up. If there aren’t enough solid reviews, the expansion is listed but not ranked.
How the list changes for you
The order is fixed by us. Your choices only filter it: what you own drops off, player counts hide boxes that won’t work, and “who you play with” fades the ones that suit a different group. Nothing is re-sorted by price or by who pays.
Mistakes
New editions come out and we miss things. If you spot an error, tell us and we’ll fix it.
