Start with Wingspan Oceania Expansion.

  1. Number 1: Wingspan Oceania Expansion

    Buy this first

Adds: 95 new birds, new player mats, a wild food called nectar, new dice, 5 bonus cards, 4 goal tiles and yellow eggs.

Fixes: New mats let you pay to refresh the bird tray or feeder, and nectar makes it easier to afford birds.

The one most reviewers say to get first. The new mats and nectar change the game more than any other box.

Usually a better fit for a different kind of group — still fine if it sounds fun.

  2. Number 2: Wingspan European Expansion

    Worth it

Adds: 81 new European birds, many with powers that trigger at round end. Also 5 bonus cards, 5 goal tiles, purple eggs and a card tray.

Fixes: Gives more ways to score in the last round, so piling up eggs is not the only big finish.

More birds with no new rules. IGN and Fjord Labs both say get Oceania first, then add this for variety.

Usually a better fit for a different kind of group — still fine if it sounds fun.

  3. Number 3: Wingspan Asia

    Depends on your group

Adds: 90 new birds, 14 bonus cards, a 2-player Duet map, and Flock mode for 6-7 players. Works as its own 1-2 player game.

Fixes: Adds head-to-head interaction to 2-player games and a way to seat 6-7 players.

Best if you mostly play with two, since it works on its own. Reviewers call the 6-7 player Flock mode messy.

Plays alone as a 1-2 player game; the 6-7 player Flock mode needs player pieces from the base game.

Usually a better fit for a different kind of group — still fine if it sounds fun.

    Standalone (mixes in)1–7 playersPrice: $20–$40
  4. Number 4: Wingspan Americas Expansion

    Worth it

Adds: 111 new Latin American birds, 40 small hummingbird cards, a hummingbird garden board, mat overlays and tracks, 8 bonus cards.

Fixes: Hummingbirds give a small bonus at the end of each row, so every turn does a bit more.

Newest box. Board Game Quest calls it a must-buy with rules that slot in easily. Games run a little longer.

You need either the Wingspan base game or Wingspan Asia (for 1-2 players).

Usually a better fit for a different kind of group — still fine if it sounds fun.

  • Asia works on its own for 1–2 players, but its 6–7 player “Flock” mode needs parts from the base game.
